Gary is the master-mind, dreamer and philosopher of Blue Heron Vineyards, LLC. His vision is the reason for what we are as a business that includes the Vineyard, the Winery, the Farm, the B&B and the Celtic Cross. He often says he wears too many hats (and proved it one day by walking in the living room wearing about 20!). He is the vineyard master, biologist, cellar master, stick carver, historian and caretaker of the property.
Gary grew up in Tell City with Italian, Irish and Belgian-French roots (no wonder he loves wine). His professional background is in Education. He graduated from the University of Tennessee (where he had a four-year basketball scholarship) and furthered his education at Indiana University and Indiana State. From there he taught at Lookout Mountain Junior High, Troy School, Hoosier Heights and Tell City High School until he ended up in prison…where he taught (got you there for a minute, didn’t I?). Before he retired in 2007, he was the Education Administrator at Branchville Correctional Facility. Gary and his chemist/friend Carl Clarke attended Purdue University’s “Wine School” and numerous wine and vineyard workshops sponsored by that school and the Indiana Wine/Grape Council.
Lynn is an artist as well as co-owner of Blue Heron Vineyards. She works in a variety of media, but prefers acrylics, watercolor and pastels. Her paintings of Victorian-style Santas on aged barn wood and slate have attracted collectors from the region. View her work in the winery gift shop, or at Blue Heron Farm House. Lynn is also the cook and chief bottle washer at the B&B and other events put on by Blue Heron Vineyards.
Lynn’s full-time job (besides the vineyard, winery and B&B) is as an Art teacher at Perry Central High School. She grew up in Hancock County, Kentucky and received her education at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green with additional classes at University of Southern Indiana.
